Assassin's Creed Introduces Surprising Attack on Titan Crossover for Holiday Season
In a surprising partnership that challenges conventional expectations, Ubisoft has unveiled an in-game partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the acclaimed anime series Attack on Titan. The unusual holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, offering complimentary additional story content for Shadows players.
Mysterious Mission Disclosed
According to the formal announcement, "An unusual meeting leads characters Naoe and Yasuke into a new mission, where hints of prohibited ceremonies and fearsome transformations resonate through the obscurity." The storyline introduces a "strangely attired woman named Ada" who charges the characters with venturing into the Gemstone Grotto—a key location from Attack on Titan—to save her friend from a hidden sect.
The adventure centers on "bizarre experiments and a fearsome adversary" and is accessible to all players who have acquired the Yasuke character.
Recognizable Places and Metamorphoses
The preview highlights the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This important location was previously where the Reiss royal family transmitted the Founding Titan ability through generations. The teaser concludes with a powerful sequence showing a character, likely the hostage, morphing into a Titan that looms over Naoe and Yasuke.
Unique Items and Bonus Features
Players who finish the adventure will acquire an exclusive katana together with several artifacts concealed throughout the area in concealed chests. The update also features purchasable Attack on Titan item packs, including:
- Titan-themed attire for Yasuke
- Mikasa costume for Naoe
- Exclusive implements
- Survey Corps steed
Third Free Story Update
This release also brings the game's newest no-cost story episode, titled "The Mystery." This humorous adventure teams Naoe and Yasuke as they exchange characteristic skills: Naoe introduces a performative variation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns non-fatal stealth takedowns. True to its name, "The Mystery" also includes a new environmental puzzle that may finally clarify some unanswered questions from the main storyline.
Earlier Japanese Animation Collaborations
This marks hardly the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has partnered with well-known anime series. The series earlier showcased a 2020 collaborative story uniting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Moreover, Valhalla informally included a quest that obviously nodded to the well-known series One-Punch Man.
