Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed Oscar Piastri at all of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, sitting 36 points Norris, was classified in 17th position as his team followed a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, albeit lightly, when he spun at corner four early in the session.
The Japanese spun out over the curbs on exit before rotating through the escape zone, and was blessed to avoid just a light touch of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho turn leading to the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with the German's car P3, 0.619 seconds off the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
